Squadron levies

Being a member of No.38 (Wigram) Squadron Air Training Corps does incur some costs. These are met both by the cadets' families (Squadron levies $125 per year*) and from the community (fundraising activities & grants).

* For more than one from the same family the fees are reduced to $95 for the second family member.

The routine weekly running of an efficient ATC unit does cost money. These expenses may include training equipment and resources, stationery & photocopying, Building trust fees , National support organisation annual affiliation fees, and many other day to day running costs.

Additional cadet training activities outside of the weekly parade may also add to these costs.

This amounts to several hundred dollars per year per cadet, however participation on these events is voluntary.

Where the activity fees go?

The Government and the Community:

Support for ATC units is a partnership between the Government and the community.

support from the NZ Government is through NZ Defence Force is not in the form of funds.

Therefore funding for local unit activities can only be derived from the local community.

The fundraising which the Unit Support Committee organises raises the largest portion of the funds required to operate the unit - other income being occasionally gained from grants or donations for special projects, eg. purchase of some major training equipment items such as Tents, Sleeping bags or Packs.

Do the fees pay for everything?

Sadly not. Every year the costs of hiring equipment and consumables such as fuel increase.

38 SQN attempts to keep fees as low as possible to ensure that the Cadets and their families are not disadvantaged financially.
